We are expanding the writing group!

We are excited to announce that we are expanding our efforts to organize writing groups.

We will keep the existing group which meets at Starlight Studio on Friday at 10 AM and is open to all who wish to join us.

Additionally there will be a second group that meets on Thursday at 5 PM on the UB south campus in Harriman Hall. Our first meeting will be Thursday, October 15 at 5 PM. This writing group is also open to anyone who wishes to join us. For more information or if you wish to confirm a spot at our table please contact: Aimee Levesque <aimeelevesque@gmail.com>

We will be seeking various venues in which to publish our work!

Please join us for our next to DEAN meeting on Wednesday, September 16 at 2 PM at Deaf Access Services in the Tri-Main building on Main Street near Amherst. On the agenda for this meeting: approve our bylaws, an update on our 501(c)(3) status, making our writing group grow, discussing the spring arts and culture festival, transportation updates, announcements of fall event, and much more. Please bring your own agenda items. All are welcome!

Participants Needed for Paid Focus Group!

The University at Buffalo’s Center on Knowledge Translation for Technology Transfer (KT4TT) and Western New York Independent Living, Inc. (WNYIL) are conducting focus groups on a wheelchair navigation route planning system. WNYIL is recruiting individuals over the age of 18 who use manual wheelchairs.

Eligible participants will be compensated with $75 cash for attending one evening discussion session in October. The session will run approximately 2 hours and will take place at WNY Independent Living, Inc. located at 3108 Main Street, Buffalo near Hertel Avenue.

KT4TT is a partnership of the University at Buffalo’s Center for Assistive Technology, and WNYIL agencies. This Buffalo-based five-year program is sponsored by a grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

This Friday at Hallwalls

I wanted to let you know that this Friday LDA of WNY will be hosting a Happy Hour style screening of CinemAbility, a documentary about the evolution of people with disabilities in the movie industry, at Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center
(341 Delaware Ave, Buffalo NY 14202) from 6-7:30PM, with a cash bar from 5-6PM. The documentary is really great and is filled with a star studded cast sharing their experiences. Also, we will have some local beer and wine to enjoy while we mingle! Stop by if you are free. Tickets ($15) can be purchased here and or at the door.

Yad B’Yad Meeting on Sunday

Yad B’Yad (Hand in Hand) is continuing our programming geared toward adult individuals with Asperger’s this Sunday!!
The meetup will take place on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 1pm to 3pm at SPoT Coffee (765 Elmwood Avenue Buffalo, NY 14222). Participation is free (though participants are responsible for purchasing their own food/coffee/etc.). RSVP to matt@bjebuffalo.org or 716-204-5380 is appreciated, but not required.
The group consists of those with Asperger’s, as well as neurotypical individuals who like to join in with us for discussion and socialization.
